The Barber Instructor at Ðǿմ«Ã½ will be responsible for teaching barbering techniques, theory, and practical skills to students, preparing them for licensure and successful careers in the barbering industry. This role requires a passion for education, strong technical expertise, and a commitment to fostering student success in a dynamic learning environment. 

 

Description of Job Duties:

Instruction: 

Deliver engaging lectures and hands-on training in barbering techniques, including haircutting, styling, shaving, scalp treatments, and chemical processes, in accordance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) curriculum standards. 

Curriculum Development: 

Develop and update lesson plans, syllabi, and instructional materials to ensure alignment with industry trends and state licensing requirements. 

Student Assessment: 

Evaluate student performance through practical demonstrations, written exams, and other assessments, providing constructive feedback to support skill development. 

Classroom and Lab Management: 

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment, including the proper use and care of barbering tools and equipment. 

Student Support: 

Mentor and advise students on academic and career goals, assisting with job placement opportunities and preparation for the TDLR Class A Barber licensing exams. 

Compliance: 

Ensure all instructional activities adhere to TDLR regulations and NTCC policies, maintaining accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress. 

Professional Development: 

Stay current with barbering industry practices, techniques, and trends through continuous education and participation in relevant workshops or seminars. 

College Service: 

Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and campus events to support the mission of NTCC and enhance the Barbering Program.

 

Experience and Other Qualifications Required:

Required: 
  • Current Texas Class A Barber License.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional barbering experience in a salon or barbershop setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively teach and engage with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of TDLR rules and regulations for barbering education. 
Preferred: 
  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Previous teaching or training experience, preferably in a community college or vocational setting.
  • Experience with classroom technology and instructional software.
