PTK members win awards over summer

It may have been summer, but that didn't stop the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Alpha Mu Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa from staying busy and racking up on new awards and honors. This included participating in the 2015 Texas Honors Institute†earlier this month.†

Angelica Fuentes received the Texas STAR Scholarship, a Texas Regional Scholarship given out by Phi Theta Kappa to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership skills. The scholarship provides $750 to pay for college expenses for the fall and spring semester.

Cassia Rose designed Alpha Mu Chi?s chapter yearbook, which won second place for the Texas Region.

Isaac Burris, who serves as the Texas Regional Vice President for District III helped plan and preside over the Texas regional meeting, July 24-27. The three day event featured speakers and activities which examined various aspects of the ?Frontiers of Exploration,? with a conference theme of ?Back to the Future.? Nearly 400 members from chapters across Texas attended the meeting.

Our Alpha Mu Chi members are bright and dedicated to making a difference not only at our chapter level, but also at a state and national level as well. We are looking forward to another exciting year filled with accomplishments," Dr. Melissa Fulgham, NTCC Phi Theta Kappa Advisor, said.†

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honors society that encourages scholarship among two-year colleges. Members†participate†in leadership development, service and academic activities. The NTCC Alpha Mu Chi Chapter was named a 5-Star Chapter in 2014, putting it among the top chapters in the country.â€
