Financial Aid Displacement Advisory

Financial aid displacement happens when a student’s aid is reduced or otherwise adjusted because the student received funding from an outside organization or for other reasons listed below. This practice is permitted in Texas and may change eligibility or award amounts. NTCC offers guidance to help students maximize financial aid and prepare if financial aid displacement occurs. Students may contact the financial aid office for help understanding changes and ways to reduce the chance of displacement.

Common reasons a student's state-funded gift aid may be adjusted:

Additional gift aid was received from a private source that pushed the student’s total gift aid over the student’s financial need or cost of attendance.
Reduced cost of attendance because the student may have dropped classes, changed housing status, or withdrawn from the institution, among other causes.
Failure to meet satisfactory academic progress requirements or other merit-based criteria for the student’s gift aid.
A change in enrollment status that renders the student ineligible for certain gift aid programs.
Failure to complete required administrative processes or submit documentation by established deadlines.
The student’s Student Aid Index changed due to verification, updates, and/or corrections to the student’s financial aid application, which impacts the student’s eligibility for some forms of gift aid or the amount of aid awarded.

How do I apply for gift aid at NTCC?

Gift aid is financial assistance that does not need to be repaid. To maximize gift aid opportunities, students should complete both a FAFSA and an NTCC scholarship application.

When can I apply for gift aid at NTCC?

Students can apply for gift aid year-round. For the best chance at limited funds, we recommend submitting a financial aid application by the priority date.

Summer	April 1

Dates listed above are priority dates. Applications received after these dates will be processed as time and availability of funds permit. You must reapply for financial assistance each academic year. Your award does not continue automatically beyond the period awarded.

What if I receive gift aid from an outside source while attending NTCC?

If a student receives any type of award, such as scholarships or corporate sponsorships, from a source other than NTCC, it must be reported the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. The aid offer may be adjusted to meet the guidelines of the aid program rules. If funds have already been disbursed and the student is no longer eligible, the student may be required to repay financial assistance from those aid programs. When possible, NTCC always tries to reduce self-help aid, such as loans or work-study, before reducing any other gift aid.

To report an award from an outside source, complete the Outside Scholarship and Resources form. (This form can also be found on your financial aid portal under the Forms tab.)

This form can be completed as many times as necessary to report new outside awards and resources.

What are some steps I can take to minimize financial aid displacement?

If an outside scholarship or other resource reduces other financial aid offers, the student may consider asking the scholarship donor about deferring the scholarship to a future academic year when fewer scholarships are expected to be awarded. Deferrals are at the donor’s discretion and are not always possible.

Daingerfield Community Scholarship

The due date is the First Class Day of the Fall Semester

This scholarship is exclusively for 2025 Daingerfield High School graduates thanks to the generosity of a privately funded grant.

The scholarship will cover in-district resident tuition and fees for up to 15 hours per semester for ALL 2025 Daingerfield High School graduates attending NTCC in the fall semester of 2025.

Example based on 2024-25 tuition and fees: Total resident tuition and fees for a student taking 15 hours is $1,859.00.

2025-26 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Students must be a 2025 graduate of Daingerfield High School.
Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility. Students who do not complete the FAFSA will not be eligible for the scholarship. www.fafsa.gov
Student must write a one-page Thank You letter addressed to members of the Daingerfield Community Scholarship Fund. Please include in the Thank You letter what this scholarship will mean to you.
Students who are eligible for full Federal Student Aid (FASFA) will not be eligible for this scholarship.
Students who are eligible for partial Federal Student Aid (FASFA) may be eligible for a partial scholarship to be determined by the scholarship office.
Students taking more than 15 credit hours will be responsible for any additional tuition and fees.
Student must attend �ǿմ�ý in the fall semester after high school graduation and consecutive semesters thereafter.
The scholarship is for fall and spring semesters only and ends after two consecutive years (four total semesters).
To maintain eligibility, students must enroll in and complete a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
In-district tuition applies to residents of the Camp, Morris and Titus counties. Residents of any other Texas county will be responsible for the difference between in-district and out-of-district tuition fees.
Please note: Some programs have differential fees or special course fees. These fees, along with the cost of books, are not covered under the scholarship and are the responsibility of the student. Please check with the NTCC Business Office for additional financing options if needed.

Scholarship Application Tips

Your application is not submitted until the status in the scholarship application (AwardSpring) shows "completed." Make sure you don't have any items that are still "in progress."
You must attach your most recent high school transcript that shows your expected graduation date.
Your essay should be at least a paragraph in length, answer all questions, and be free of errors.

Scholarship guidelines are subject to change on a yearly basis.
