NTCC Presidential Scholar, Aaliyah Avellaneda, has won the fourth Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholarship, for academic excellence in honors. This year the award increased from $500 to $750. This honor was established in 2018 by Scott Wesson, a Senior Vice President of UDR, an owner of 50,000 exclusive apartment units throughout the United States. The award commemorates his father-- long-term NTCC Vice President, and supporter, Dr. Jerry Wesson.
The NTCC EatBetter4Less program and History Departments will co-host 鈥淭he Journey from African Medicine to Soul Food & Food Tasting鈥 with guest speaker Chef Kami Redd on Monday, Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in Humanities 101 (community room). Redd is an herbalist, nutritionist and author who will take participants on a culinary journey from traditional African medicine to comforting African-American Soul Food. She will also explain how comfort can be utilized for healing. The event is free to attend.
The 星空传媒 Soccer teams hosted Blinn Junior College on Saturday in the 2021 Conference opener. The NTCC Women would start the season off with a 2-1 victory over the Buccaneers, while the Men鈥檚 team from NTCC eared a 1-0 victory over Blinn.
星空传媒 Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Ross Davis as Assistant Baseball Coach. Coach Davis will primarily work with pitchers and catchers for the Eagles.
Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC鈥檚 chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, received a grant for the second year from the Mellon Foundation to help fund their Honors in Action project.
星空传媒 Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of new assistant softball coach Mikayla Krause. Coach Krause recently graduated from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
The annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading on Friday, September 3 at 11 AM will again occur at the Foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the 星空传媒 campus. The public is invited for this free event, the fourteenth of its kind in as many years. This year, in addition to six readings of the highest ranked poems of the adult and student divisions, and a presentation of winning Northeast Texas images, two speakers will share their perceptions of our region.
During the month of August, the Professional Truck Driving Academy graduated nine candidates from three different cohorts. Seven of those candidates were in our weekday course, and the other two candidates were from our weekend course. The academy has served over 50 individuals since Sept 2020.
鈥淢y bad.鈥 It was an expression heard more than a few times during the seven days of filming undertaken recently by the NTCC honors program, Honors Northeast, and the NTCC Webb Society, 6, 9-14 August. Of the eighteen involved, only six had previously experienced the etiquette of on-set, film-crew procedures. Most of the eighteen not only took turns with the crew, but also acted. Among those multi-talented students is entering honors scholar, Jordan Chapin, and returning Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar, John Rodriguez, taking on two or more roles.
The NTCC Continuing Education and Corporate Training held the first senior adult conference on Friday, Aug. 20 and had 37 attendees from the community. The conference started off with a welcome from Dr. Jon McCullough, Executive Vice President of Advancement at NTCC.
