Free GED classes offered in Naples

The Adult Education Department at 星空传媒 is offering free General Education Development (GED) classes at the Naples Civic Center at 412 W.L. Doc Dodson Blvd (Hwy. 67 W). Students interested in attending classes must enroll in a 12-hour orientation.鈥The GED exam is changing in January 2014. At that time, all students seeking a GED will be required to complete the entire new test.

Job fair planned for September 24

星空传媒 will host a job fair on Tuesday, September 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Building (SUB) on the main NTCC campus. The event is free to the public.鈥燤ore than a dozen local and regional employers will be in attendance.

?We realize that the job market is鈥爐ough鈥爎ight now. We are offering this fair as an opportunity for job seekers to get face time with area hiring managers,?

Whiskey Myers, Bri Bagwell to perform at Whatley Center



The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts will host an evening of Texas Country on Tuesday, Sept. 24 with a double-feature concert including Whiskey Myers and Bri Bagwell.




The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 for students and $15 for adults. The show is general admission and reservations are recommended, but not required. Call 903-434-8181 to hold your tickets.

Thursday buffets are back at Our Place

The 星空传媒 Culinary Arts Program will host three special Buffet Nights on Thursdays this fall. These will be held 鈥燼t the NTCC Culinary Institute ("Our Place") in historic downtown Pittsburg and are open to the public.

Dinners will be held鈥爁rom 6:00-7:30 p.m.鈥爋n September 19, October 3, and October 17. Seating is restaurant-style and to-go orders will be available by calling ahead to 903-434-8333 The cost is $10 per person.

Skinny Trammell artist reception held

The 星空传媒 Art Department held an artist reception featuring local artist Skinny Trammell on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Lone Star resident's hand-crafted musical instruments were a featured exhibit in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts foyer.鈥燬kinny is 84 years old and fishes every day, makes musical instruments, and tells a few yarns now and then. The instruments on display at the Whatey include guitars, fiddles, ukuleles, and dobros.

Evening police academy begins Oct. 14

The Northeast Police Academy at 星空传媒 is offering an evening police academy beginning Monday, Oct. 14 at the main NTCC campus.鈥燭he academy runs through May 13. This program is specifically designed for working adults who are interested in pursuing a鈥燾areer in law enforcement.

The academy will meet from 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every first and third Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Northeast Texas poetry contest winners announced

The 星空传媒 Honors program recently held the sixth annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. The competition was open to both students and the general public. Winning works were presented at a poetry reading in the Whatley Center foyer on Friday, Aug. 30.



Entries could be any style or length, but were asked to focus on some aspect of life in Northeast Texas. Contest judges were Professors Chuck Hamilton, Anna Ingram, and Jim Swann. Cash prizes were provided by Friends of NTCC Honors. The winners were as follows:

NTCC holds retirement reception for Jerry Massey

星空传媒 celebrated the service of Jerry Massey, a long-time member of the NTCC board of Trustees, with a retirement reception on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Massey (left), of Pittsburg, recently retired from the board after 18 years of service. He and his wife, Susan, are retiring to the Houston area in order to be closer to family. Other members of the college board, faculty, staff, and community gathered in the Whatley Center foyer to honor Massey. Dr. Brad Johnson (right), NTCC President, and Mr. Bill Priefert, NTCC Board Member, 鈥爂ave remarks.

Travel to George W Bush Library with NTCC

Want to get away for a day? Consider joining the 星空传媒 Continuing Education Department on a travel excursion to the George W. Bush Library in Dallas. The trip is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 and will include round-trip travel to Dallas by motor coach and the cost of admission.


The coach will leave from the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg at 7 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $60 for adults, $55 for seniors (62 and older), and $55 for high school and college students.

Stephen Milburn wins STAR Scholarship

Stephen Milburn, a 星空传媒 student from Mount Pleasant, was one of six recipients of the Dr. Mary Hood STAR Scholarship.鈥 The scholarship honors returning community college students in the Texas region who show outstanding promise as leaders and as scholars.鈥 The recipients were announced at the recent Texas Honors Institute held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX and recognized onstage.
