NTCC Phi Theta Kappa chapter receives grant from the Mellon Foundation to collect 40 stories

Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, recently received its sixth Honors in Action grant from the Mellon Foundation. The chapter will use the funds to explore and expand upon the various ways in which community colleges preserve stories. Part of that project includes filming and compiling 鈥40 stories鈥 related to the college as it celebrates its fortieth anniversary.

Description of Job Duties

  • Facilitate students' seamless enrollment by offering comprehensive assistance throughout the entire process, including admissions, document requirements, financial aid, and more.
  • Address inquiries and provide guidance on registration, orientation, academic plans, and advisement referrals, as well as online enrollment activities.
  • Skillfully manage tasks related to transcript requests, updating personal information, scheduling changes, withdrawal processes, verifications, and FERPA form submissions.

Dr. McAllister continues fish parasite research in Arkansas

Dr. Chris T. McAllister, NTCC Biology, continued his research on fish parasites on an outing from the Ouachita Mountains Biological Station (OMBS) at Big Fork, Arkansas from July 30-Aug. 3, 2025.  Dr. Mac was joined by the OMBS station manager, Dr. Jeffrey Pittman, who assisted him in electroshocking fish.

Active Minds wins Luke Beischel Chapter Jumpstart Award at national conference

The Active Minds Chapter at NTCC recently received the Luke Beischel Chapter Jumpstart Award at the 2025 Conference in Washington, DC. 

This award recognizes chapters who embody creativity and innovation in providing mental health advocacy programming to their school communities. This award includes a $1,000 donation to the chapter and invaluable mentorship from Luke Beischel, who was a past member at Xavier University.

Five NTCC students win Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Scholarships

Members of Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC鈥檚 five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, won 5 of 13 prestigious Texas Star regional scholarships given out at the 2025 Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The scholarships are available to members of Phi Theta Kappa throughout the state of Texas, with awards based on demonstrated leadership and academic excellence. 

Two of the top scholarships, each worth $750, are named after advisors in the student鈥檚 chapter.

Work4College celebrates another successful year with end-of-summer luncheon

The NTCC Work4College Program celebrated the end of summer with its annual appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 6th. Work4College donors, supervisors, students and their families attended the event in the Student Union Building. This is the 11th year of the program, and more than 80 students participated.

Play It Forward Benefit Concert to be held at the Whatley Center

Play It Forward is a community-sponsored special benefit concert created to bring the area together in support of Mary Lynn Palmer, a beloved local resident currently battling cancer. According to the sponsors, the event promises a heartfelt evening of live music and giving, featuring performances by country music legend Gene Watson, The Rodney Whatley Band, and Stacy Musgrove.
